Ebola Virus Model (3D)
Product reference: BIO000937
Description
Ebola Virus Model 3D Educational Model of the Ebola Virus
Large, three-dimensional (3D) model of the Ebola virus enlarged by approximately 100,000 times. The model features a clearly visible, distinctive shape and structure. The surface of the model depicts the viral envelope with glycoproteins. A cutaway at one end allows students to observe internal components: the major and minor matrix proteins, the polymerase protein, and the viral genetic material—RNA.
First described in 1976, the Ebola virus is one of the most deadly viruses on Earth. After infection, patients develop severe hemorrhagic fever, characterized by a mortality rate of about 90%. The name of the virus derives from the Ebola River in the northern Congo, where the first cases of disease caused by this virus were detected.
The model is mounted on a base to facilitate display.
