The model practically demonstrates the presence and content of tar substances and nicotine in cigarettes. A cigarette (not included) is lit with a pump, and the burnt substances, normally drawn by the smoker into the lungs, are deposited in the model on soft, square filters (6 pieces in the set), which change color depending on the amount of substances contained in the cigarette.

The model has been designed so that the “burning” of even one cigarette changes the filter’s coloration—providing a smooth, effective and striking demonstration and preventing the burning of more cigarettes during the experiment.

The filter can be easily removed from the model. At higher levels of teaching, substances from the filter can be subjected to chemical analysis.

The model – thanks to a practical demonstration – effectively supports discussing the negative impact of nicotine (including e-cigarettes) on the functioning of the human body, including the nervous and respiratory systems.

This model as an experimental kit is also a great introduction to discussions in various school lessons on topics such as:

• Biology - the human organism - the negative impact of nicotine (including e-cigarettes) on the functioning of the human body;
• Chemistry and health (properties of chemical substances) - the way nicotine penetrates the human body;
• Health education - health hazards - health consequences of using drugs and psychoactive substances.

The model consists of a red figure of a person on a white background with a cut-out mouth opening (for sliding in a cigarette) and a cut-out outline of lungs, into which a soft, square filter is placed by means of a retractable, fitted feeder, on which tar substances are deposited during the model's “smoking” of a cigarette. The model is very durable, made entirely from layers of colored plexiglass (except for the included tubing and pump with a check valve) and positioned vertically on a base (also made of plexiglass), so that it is very visible from afar and remains stable during performing the experiment.
