A three-dimensional model of the external and internal structure of a neuron, magnified more than 2500 times. Thanks to transverse and longitudinal cross-sections, the ultrastructure and cytology of this nerve cell are visible, along with its detailed organization, including organelles, rendered in contrasting colors. Consequently, the model clearly illustrates both the external and internal features of the synapse, the axon, and the dendrite. For example, a portion of the axon is exposed to reveal the myelin sheath and the neurilemma, as well as the Schwann cell. The entire model is made of plastic and is mounted on a board.
