Biodegradation Experimental Kit with Marker and Board: Waste — How Long Do They Decompose

Educational kit "Biodegradation (J3)" is a more compact version of the "Biodegradation (J)" kit. This teaching aid has been designed to enable conducting experiments on the biodegradability of various materials. The kit allows free, independent choice of substrate and materials to test. The kit includes samples of different materials (see composition), such as: biodegradable shopping bag, dog waste bag, cellulose film, starch filler, container with wheat bran, strips of various metals. You can therefore test the biodegradability of the materials contained in the kit, as well as materials from our immediate surroundings, including materials discarded by us or in our vicinity into the waste container.

A distinguishing feature of this kit is its contents – all materials provided in the kit to test are products available and distributed on the Polish market! We therefore test materials that are available in Poland.

The kit is carefully thought out. For example, realizing the limitations of conducting experiments outside specialized laboratories, a composter has been included with the kit to accelerate the composting process of waste in containers.

There is also the option to purchase a complementary kit containing consumable parts of the set.

The kit, as a teaching aid, enables practical discussion before or during didactic classes of such concepts as:

• biodegradation, biodegradability, biodegradable material,
• composting, compostable material
• disintegration, decomposition, degradation,
• renewability, recycling, recovery
• biodegradable and bioabsorbable polymers
• ecotoxicity of waste
• and others.

1. Transparent test containers with lids with two ventilation holes – 3 pcs.
2. Caps for ventilation holes on the test container lids – 6 pcs.
3. U-shaped transparent frames for test containers – 3 pcs.
4. Handle for the U-shaped transparent frame – 3 pcs.
5. Clip handle for the U-shaped transparent frame – 1 pc.
6. Stand for the test container – 1 pc.
7. Mesh cage for the stand for the test container – 1 pc.
8. Forceps for transferring samples – 1 pc.
9. Biodegradable shopping bag – 1 pc.
10. Biodegradable dog-waste bag – 1 pc.

The last item is a durable plastic carrying case with a handle and two compartments for organizing the kit components; waterproof and convenient.

A wall-mounted double-sided demonstration board showing in a vivid and illustrative way how quickly, or rather slowly—up to thousands of years—the decomposition of wastes discarded into the environment without segregation occurs, and thus lacking recycling opportunities.
For caution and learning!

On one side the board shows photos of various types of wastes with time sequences (weeks, months, decades, hundreds of years, thousands of years), in which these wastes, discarded without segregation, will biodegrade. Beside some photos are humorous notes about the consequences of not sorting these wastes. The second side – the practice side – contains example photos of wastes with the possibility to fill in empty fields with a dry-erase marker.
