Hoffmann apparatus for electrolysis
Product reference: Fiz000385
Description
Hoffmann apparatus for electrolysis
The apparatus is made of borosilicate precision glass and is used to demonstrate the chemical composition of water as it undergoes electrolysis.
The unit is supplied with two pairs of electrodes - platinum and carbon, which means it contains separate electrodes for acidified water and for solutions containing, for example, chlorides or ammonia. The stopcocks are made of PTFE (trade name: Teflon). The whole assembly is mounted on a stand (included; rod length 60 cm). For electrolysis, a DC power supply (minimum 3 A) and banana leads are required; these are not parts of the Hoffmann apparatus; if the laboratory does not have a power supply and leads, they can be purchased separately.
Composition: The Hoffmann apparatus is made of borosilicate precision glass with PTFE stopcocks (trade name: Teflon); two electrodes made of platinum, two electrodes made of carbon; a stand (base + rod) with clamps for mounting the Hoffmann apparatus.
Two names are used: Hoffmann apparatus or Hofmann apparatus.
