NeuLog: Soil Moisture Sensor for Educational Experiments
Principle of operation: The sensor is based on measuring vacuum in a tensiometer, which is enclosed by a tube with a special ceramic shield.
- The sensor operates by measuring vacuum in a tensiometer, which is enclosed by a tube with a special ceramic shield.
- After filling with water, the tensiometer is placed into the soil. If the soil is dry, water diffuses through the ceramic pores and creates a negative pressure in the tensiometer.
- When the soil is moistened, the vacuum in the tensiometer draws water back into the tensiometer, decreasing the negative pressure.
For proper operation of the sensor, NeuLog: USB Module NeuLog: USB Module (sold separately!) or one of our ready-made kits MOD56 and MOD57 (sold separately!).
