Thermal Conductivity Demonstration Set

The set comprises two insulated containers (styrofoam) with lids and an aluminum rod. One container is filled with hot water, the other with cold. Each container accepts a glass laboratory thermometer with a scale from -10 to 110 °C, mercury-free, along with the aluminum rod. The experiment involves observing and recording thermometer readings at equal time intervals (every few minutes). As a result of thermal convection, the temperature decreases in one beaker and increases in the other; the temperatures tend to equalize after about 30 minutes.

The set is designed to be as convenient and safe to use and store as possible. The lids are in two colors: white for the cold water and red for the hot water, with openings sized to fit the thermometers and the rod. The whole set is housed in a foam-filled box with openings cut to accommodate its components. Convenient and efficient!
