Description
Interesting Rocks and Minerals – 6-Piece Set
Very interesting set that will captivate both beginner mineralogists and more advanced collectors. It contains six different fragments of rocks and minerals, each measuring 3–4 cm: pyrite ("fool's gold"), scoria, obsidian, coarse-grained granite, marble, Iceland spar (a variety of calcite). It thus includes rocks (intrusive and extrusive igneous, metamorphic rocks) and minerals with interesting, not obvious properties. An example is Iceland spar, which is characterized by double refraction, i.e., the ability to split light into two rays (you can place the Iceland spar crystal on a printed sheet of paper to see how this special property works) or pyrite known as fool's gold due to its resemblance to this ore; in reality it is iron disulfide (II) and its name comes from the Greek word pyrites, meaning spark, because when struck with a piece of iron it sparks.
Only 6 specimens, and how many fascinating stories…
