Description
The model consists of 38 atoms and 42 linkers. The model can be assembled and disassembled.
The kit enables the construction of the β-quartz polymorph, which is widely found on Earth. This is a low-temperature quartz, trigonal, which remains stable up to 573 °C. It crystallizes from vapors and aqueous solutions. The most perfect crystals of this form are found in geological cavities within rocks as rock crystal, or smoky quartz.
The set includes:
- silicon atoms, Si, 10 pcs, 23 mm
- oxygen atoms, O, 28 pcs, diameter 20 mm
- linkers, 42 pcs, length 31 mm
What is quartz?
Quartz is nothing more than crystalline silicon dioxide (IV). The durable forms besides quartz α are quartz β, tridymite α and cristobalite α. Conversely, the unstable forms include: tridymite β, tridymite γ and cristobalite β.
| Quartz β | 573°C | quartz α | 870° | tridymite α | 1470°C | cristobalite α | 1710°C | stop |
