What is Calcite?

Calcite forms isometric, tabular, columnar, and needle-like crystals. It often forms twins and multiple intergrowths.

It is notable for its wealth of forms – more than 2000 crystal forms and combinations are known. It most often takes the form of rhombohedra and scalenohedra.
