The electromagnet has found - since the beginning of its invention (1823) - many practical applications. One of them, for years, was a traditional school bell. Other, quite commonly known examples, due to their spectacularity - are huge electromagnets used in scrap yards - for separating and carrying magnetic parts of cars - and in waste sorting plants. On a micro scale, they can be found inside many everyday devices.
