Mohs hardness scale – collection of 9 specimens

The set contains nine specimens used as standards on the Mohs hardness scale. The samples can be used in class or in the field to test the hardness of an unknown mineral sample up to hardness 9. They can also be used in classroom activities to determine relative hardness by testing each mineral on glass, copper, and other test materials. The set contains nine numbered samples. Talc, included in the set, is chemically similar to asbestos; however it is structurally different and harmless.

Specimens in the set: corundum, microcline, quartz, fluorite, apatite, gypsum, topaz, calcite, talc.
