An instrument for determining the position of the sun for any date and time, and for measuring the sun's altitude and azimuth, with a built-in compass and spirit level. The visible path of the sun can also be plotted on a transparent hemisphere to show the position of the sun at any time of the year. The device is set to face the sun at noon, and the sun's position is applied to the tracking dome at different times of the day. The aiming mirror is used to draw horizon profiles on the tracking dome. It is an ideal device for studying the Earth-Sun relationship and analyzing solar localization. Comes with a red washable crayon for making markings on the hemisphere and a chord.
